Winter rye


Main goal in rye breeding is to obtain high yielding and high adaptable varieties, resistant to sprouting and lodging. Danko pays high attention to the maintenance breeding which allows to keep varieties on the market for a long time.
The newest population-rye variety of Danko is Dańkowskie Diament. This variety stands out good yielding, winter hardiness and tillering. Besides it shows good diseases and lodging resistance and high tolerance to acid soils. The grain of Dańkowskie Diament is well equalized with high weight of 1000 kernels, high falling number and protein content and good milling value.
The rye breeding programme contains breeding of hybrid-rye. Two hybrid-rye varieties Nawid and Gradan were bred in collaboration with Poznańska Hodowla Roślin. These varieties are resistant to powdery mildew, have shorter and resistant to lodging straw also equalized and resistant to sprouting grain. Danko rye varieties are successfully grown abroad and the following cultivars are registered:
